Stiri din sahul international si din Republica Moldova

Born on December 14th 1971 in Chisinau. The second out of five sons. My father is an informatician and my mother worked as a Spanish teacher. I started learning to play chess from my father when I was 7. Later, in automn 1981, I had my first chess-trainings with my first trainer Ion Solonar. After 3 years, at the end of year 1984, thanks for my good results, I became candidate in chess-masters.

In 1988 I've graduated the nr.19 school, with Spanish specialization. During a year I worked at the Republican Chess Club in Chisinau. In summer 1989, I have succesfully passed the exams and was admitted in the Physical Education and Sports Institute, in Moscow. There I started to work with the Latvian grandmaster Zigurds Lanka. In 1993 I graduated this Institute and was admitted in the Academy of Physical Education and Sports to obtain the doctor's degree. Meanwhile, I began trainings with the faimous russian trainer Mark Dvoretsky. In 1996 I passed the examination for the doctor's degree on the theme: "The Complex Training Of The Top Chess Players"

In winter, 1986, the collaboration with the patriarch of the Moldavian chess, Viacheslav Andreevichi Chebanenko has started. The first major result in my career I've achieved at the URSS championship between young players in 1989, where I've obtained 1-3 place at the first table, together with Gelfand and Shirov. In 1990, after a several well played tournments, I became international master in chess, fullfilling the 3 necessary normatives. The title I've recieved in autumn, same year.

The year 1991 was a crucial point in my chess-carier. I've fullfiled the 4 necessary normatives of grandmaster and I've recieved the new title in October, at the FIDE Congress. I also played well at the last URSS Championship, where I was placed 7th. At January 1992, I was 52th in the FIDE top 100 players list. This result was imporved only on July 7th, 1994 (50th place) and on January 1st, 2001(19th! place)

For more than 7 years, I've played in the Bundeslinga, for the Dresden team. In 1993-1995 I've also played for club Belfort, from France. In 1995-1997 I was a member of the "Tattransgaz" club from Kazany, Russia, with who we became the winners in the European Champions Cup, in 1996. In 1997, after my succes in New York, I've decided to quit chess and I worked with securities on the market-places. The economic crisis in Russia in 1998 "helped" me returnig to chess and also I've obtained the right to representate Moldova at the first World Chess Championship in Groningen, Netherlands. Unfortunately, I have lost in the second round.

In year 2000 I managed to win 4 tournments in a row(Minsk, Beijing, Poikovskii, Buenos Aires) and, as a consiquence I became the nomber 19th, according to Elo coefficient(2684) on January 1st, 2001.

On November 2001, I married russian ballerine from the "Moskva" Theater, Margarita Makarova, and we have now a two-year daughter Ecaterina.

I have played for the national team at the following Chess Olympiads: Manila(1992), Moscow(1994), Yerevan(1996), Elista(1998), Bled, Slovenia(2002) and Calvia, Spain(2004). Each time I played on the first table. The best result our team scored was the 31-th place at the 35th Olympiad in Bled.
